Between 16.6 per cent in Puducherry and 37.1 per cent in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, stunting still differs by more than two times across the country. The India figure fell from 35.5 to 29.3 per cent between NFHS-5 and NFHS-6.
Policy implication A national fall hides states that moved the other way. Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep rose, so a programme judged on the India average would miss them.
Data vintage. This map uses NFHS-5 (2019-21). NFHS-6 (2023-24) state fact sheets were released in May 2026, but they are provisional and report fewer indicators, so the figures here have not been replaced.
