Access to an account women use themselves has become close to universal. The gap between states shrank to 14 points, from 81.5 per cent in Meghalaya to 95.5 per cent in Ladakh.

An account that a woman uses herself is not the same as control over the money in it. Survey figures on decisions and earnings are the next question to ask.

Data vintage. This map uses NFHS-5 (2019-21). NFHS-6 (2023-24) state fact sheets were released in May 2026, but they are provisional and report fewer indicators, so the figures here have not been replaced.
