Registered cruelty by a husband or his relatives runs from 0.4 per lakh women in Goa to 52.8 in Telangana. The India figure is 17.6, from 19.7 in 2023.

This is a count of cases registered, and it is not the same as the spousal violence women report in surveys such as NFHS. A higher figure can reflect easier reporting as well as more crime, so states should not be ranked on it.
