India notified 25,52,257 TB patients in 2023, a rate of 178.8 per lakh population, of which 119.7 came from the public sector and 59.2 from private providers. Chandigarh (556.4), Delhi (507.2) and Puducherry (263.5) are highest. Of the other states Haryana (260.8) and Uttar Pradesh (260.1) are highest and Kerala (61.5), Manipur (69.4) and Jammu and Kashmir (77.6) lowest, apart from Lakshadweep (9.0, on 6 cases).
Policy implication A notification rate counts cases found and reported, so a high rate can mean more TB or better case finding, and a low one can mean fewer cases or cases missed. The report gives no state incidence, only a national modelled figure of 199 per lakh for 2022, so this map does not show where TB is commonest. Cases are counted where they were notified, which can differ from where the patient lives, and Lakshadweep's rate rests on 6 cases.
